From pre-decriminalisation of homosexuality to our visible emergence into a more inclusive and equal society, this local documentary explores how our hidden LGBT history in Northern Ireland, which has been locked away in records, diaries and personal memorabilia, can be remembered. It is also an exploration of how the living history of the last fifty years can be celebrated within the heritage of Belfast as a city. With local contributors Vince Creelan, Jeff Dudgeon, Brenda Murphy, Doug Sobey, Grainne Close, Shannon Sickels, David Grant and Heather Fleming.
The documentary was screened during the Outburst Queer Arts Festival (16 November 2013) between 3.30pm-
4.45pm; and the screening was followed by an informal round table discussion, led by the LGBT History Archive Working Group in Belfast, around building an online public archive that shares the stories, memorabilia and key events that shaped, and continue to shape, our LGBT histories in Northern Ireland.

A Nightmare on Elm Street (2)
NIGRA is on a retro feel today, and the latest to be brought out of the archive is A Nightmare on Elm Street (2) – but Deadly Movies says … is renowned for giving My Beautiful Laundrette a run for its money for the gayest film of 1985, but let us not forget Coach Schneider’s role in this man meat fest of homoeroticism. Fond of referring to his mostly topless and often wrestling male pupils as “dirt balls“, Coach Schneider is never very far from any male nudity, and has a penchant for appearing in dreams as a leather clad bondage slave. But it’s his death by shower-locker-room-towel-ass-slap which cements his place in horror history…
But the 2010 movie of A Nightmare on Elm Street has this delightful looking body to tease you:

Test (2013)
An astutely crafted 1985 period drama set in the gay Mecca of San Francisco, Test lovingly portrays this uniquely exciting and harrowing era as young Frankie (spectacularly lithe real-life dancer Scott Marlowe) navigates gay life in the big city alongside the travails of being an understudy in a modern dance company and his evolving relationship with fellow dancer Todd (the hunky Matthew Risch).
As the newest and youngest member of an exciting contemporary dance company Frankie faces a variety of challenges including the homophobic choreographer who commands him to, “dance like a man!” When one of his fellow dancers is injured Frankie must perform in his place. Todd, an established dancer in the same company and the bad-boy to Frankie’s innocent, helps Frankie prepare. It’s the classic test of skill and character. But a very different test looms on the horizon for both of them. As Frankie and Todd’s friendship deepens, they navigate a world full of risk… and hope.
My Beautiful Launderette
My Beautiful Launderette is set in South London in the 1980s, the film tells the story of young British Indian Omar, who takes over the running of his uncle’s run-down launderette. In his attempt to turn it into a success, he employs former childhood friend and ex-National Front member Johnny (played by a smoking hot Daniel Day-Lewis) and the two men fall in love. But they’re soon confronted by problems caused by both Omar’s family who want him to marry an ‘Indian’ girl of a good family, Johnny’s former gang.

In its frank depiction of inter-racial gay love, there’s no question My Beautiful Launderette was way ahead of its time. It also bravely explores racism, the second-generation immigrant experience, and the new enterprise culture of Thatcher’s Britain. It launched the careers of Daniel Day-Lewis, director Stephen Frears and writer Hanif Kureishi.
There are of course issues with the movie, namely that it’s a story about two gay men that never use the word gay; but at the time it was an astonishing piece of cinema. Some of the characters are stereotypes, and some of the acting is over the top; but it is a movie that any gay couple should have on their list of watched and will watch again.

New LGBT film, Beautiful Something
Four guys go cruising…
Beautiful Something is looking like the film to watch at the gay film festivals, this year.
Described as a “sex-fueled night in the life of Generation Something,” Beautiful Something follows four gay men as they cruise Philadelphia in pursuit of ever-elusive human connection. The film explores sexual identity, desire and yearning and the human condition.

Gay Dads in new Dove advert
We’re not crying, just something in our eye
Dove, have released their newest advert and it’s so good. The video, shows men learning that they’re new dads and dads to be, with home-caught footage that shows some incredible reactions.
Both gay dads traight dads are included with the tag line “real strength means showing you care even from the very first moment”.
The inclusivity of the advert is, again, another step forward for gay families.

HBO NOW Releases 'Pride Month Collection' In Celebration Of Queer Pride

We’re smack dab in the middle of Pride month and if you feel like you haven’t gotten your fill of queer-related cultural content, HBO wants to change that.
HBO NOW just released its “Pride Month Collection,” a round-up of queer HBO programming, documentaries, comedy specials and films from the last 40 years. The list is a diverse representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community, ranging from Liberace biopic “Behind the Candelabra” to “Wanda Sykes: I’ma Be Me” to the hit series “Looking.”
“Over the last 40 years, HBO programming has shed light on important issues like LGBT Families, Bullying, HIV/ AIDS, hate crimes, marriage equality and more that face the LGBT community through award-winning and critically-acclaimed original series, miniseries, films and documentaries,” a representative for HBO said in an email sent to The Huffington Post. “These programs have included some of the most dynamic, groundbreaking and inspiring stories that put human faces behind the challenges.”
HBO NOW curates round-ups each month for users to get the whole range of experience related to a specific event, genre or actor. It is a subscription-based service available through Apple or Cablevision. Check out the image below for a sneak peak of the “Pride Month Collection.”
Tylenol hire out gay Oscar winner Dustin Lance Black to shoot TV Ad

Many forward thing major corporations are getting far more inclusive in their advertising these days, and US drug company Johnson & Johnson went one further by hiring out gay Academy Award winner Dustin Lance Black to shoot their latest campaign for Tylenol.
It features a same-sex prom couple and two gay dads and has a voiceover that declares, “Family isn’t defined by who you love, but how.” Manoj Raghunandanan, Senior Director of Marketing for Johnson and Johnson’s McNeil Consumer Healthcare, told Advertising Age that the ad was representative of his company’s commitment to celebrating how “families look and feel different [now] than they did before.”

Target is ringing in Pride month in a very big way, introducing a rainbow-themed clothing and accessories line as well as an inclusive ad campaign.
Unveiled June 8, the Minnesota-based retail giant’s #TakePride line is available online and in select stores. It includes T-shirts, swim trunks and flip-flops, as well as headphones, iPhone cases and other products.
Pride Swim Short, Rainbow The commercial that accompanies the campaign, which can be viewed above, pairs archival footage of LGBT rights milestones with colorful, time-lapse images and present-day Pride clips.
“We’re not born with pride,” a voiceover declares. “We take pride, pride in celebrating who we were born to be.”
Pride Flip Flop Sandals, Rainbow Chevron Laysha Ward, Target’s Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer, said in a statement:
Pride Men’s Sunday Funday, Navy Target, which came under criticism in 2013 for reportedly making a donation to an organization that supported an anti-gay Republican gubernatorial candidate in Virginia, has made great strides toward inclusivity in recent years. Last year, the company signed an amicus brief in support of marriage equality, while a commercial for their “Made to Matter” product line featured two gay men painting with a child.
In 2012, the company created 10 Pride T-shirts, including two designed by Gwen Stefani, that were available online.
