Over the last fifteen years I have written various articles regarding ‘big brother’ and the encroachment of our civil liberties. I have written on the time when police thought they had carte blanc rights to stop and seize the cameras of anyone who was taking photographs of marches etc. that police had been involved in; this was followed by a piece on how the government had been using GCHQ to monitor communications of vastly more of the population that we had been aware of.
Now we are all aware of hacking and how it has developed both in terms of attacks on government and private businesses, and as important hacking as a tool of criminals; but what is probably not known is that around the world that most governments are developing hacking as a tool of warfare.
I accept that goverment needs to protect us, and in doing so needs the skillsets of hacking in its armoury, but this does not mean they should not be monitored. Steve Rangers article ‘The new art of war: How trolls, hackers and spies are rewriting the rules of conflict‘, has been well researched and allows us to understand current and future develops.
I hope you enjoy the article, and that you will let me know what your thoughts are by commenting.
