Far Right

23/09/2021 By ACOMSDave 1 Comment

The ‘faFar Rightr right’ continue to use whatever methods work for them, and there is little reason to believe that an appeal on moralistic grounds will work, remember, they believe they are on the moral high ground. If we need to beat them then we need to adopt strong tactics within the law, but we have to be as smart if not smarter than them.

‘Conservative Candidates Promoted Petitions That Sent Personal Data to European Far-Right Group’

In an article by Philip Baldwin, in the Gay Times [now no longer a print-based magazine, I am sorry to say] he said that

…the British Government is increasingly moving towards an agenda which, in his view, is profoundly lesbophobic, homophobic, biphobic and transphobic…

[Are LGBTQ+ people under siege in the UK?] (dated

Then we have William Koenig who claimed that the LGBTQ people are prepping children to be”groomed and sexualized” and that COVID is God’s “judgement” for U.S. being “so pro-LGBT”

You, no matter where you turn you can see what appears to be a backlash against the LGBTQ+ community and the affirmation of our rights.

Tonight EMMA POWYS MAURICE , has reported in the Pink Paper ‘ Police are investigating after three people were reportedly whipped with belts by a group of men in a suspected homophobic attack.‘, and before this ‘The Independent‘ reported that attacks on LGBT people have surged by almost an 80% increase in the UK over last four years.

For so many in the LGBTQ+ community we have been living through what appears to have been an enlighten ‘rosy’ period; we have been legally recognised [though at different times in the various parts of the UK], different sectors have recognised us within the working world [i.e Gay and lesbian citizens have been allowed to serve openly in the Her Majesty’s Armed Forces since 2000], same-sex marriage has been recognised and performed in England and Wales since March 2014, in Scotland since December 2014, and in Northern Ireland since January 2020.

And because of these wins, we in the LGBTQ+ community have become complacent.  We go on our Pride Parades, and forget that these were originally Marches to fight for our rights!  IN the past we also had local magazines and Gay News was a fortnightly newspaper in the United Kingdom founded in June 1972 in a collaboration between former members of the Gay Liberation Front and members of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality (CHE), this ran until 1983.

We don’t have these resources anymore, we depend on social media outlets, but remember in the main these are written by ordinary people and not journalists.  It also means that we are limited often in the in-depth research articles that we need.

Protection of our community is down to you the community, you need to report things of consequence to our community, to take a stance against things that are wrong (and let others know about your stance), and lastly, yes enjoy Gay Pride when it comes around, but remember this is to show everyone that we are not going away and that we have a right live as equal people.

Parallel Lives by Peter Burton – a gay book review

10/08/2021 By ACOMSDave Leave a Comment

Parallel Lives by Peter BurtonParallel Lives by Peter Burton, is a  memoir that falls into three unequal parts:  the first section sees PB (Peter Burton) coming to terms with his adolescent self.  this is very gracefully written as is the very end of the book describing the last few years.

The rest is a carnival of name-droppings and descriptions of unpleasant people getting unpleasingly blotto and/or pilled.

Peter Burton has no time for the ‘Gay’ movement because it is dominated by middle-class types who look down on working-class people like himself.  He also exalts the commercial scene over the efforts of the ‘politicals’, and glossy mags over the likes of … GAY STAR(?), THE PREDECESSOR OF ACOMSDave (the Blog).

This class (ill-) feeling without any impetus towards change is a very English thing – mysterious to a simple Irish queen like myself.  And the inability to spot the symbiotic relationship between the ‘scene’ and the ‘community is very London-village.

Despite these rather sharp criticisms, I look forward to a real autobiography from Peter Burton.  Towards the end of this volume, he edges towards real self-analysis.  He has a good brain, a sharp eye and commonsense, an assessment of himself and the sub-culture and also the general community could be a masterpiece.

The Glass Boat by Alison Ward – a gay book review

03/08/2021 By ACOMSDave Leave a Comment

The Glass BoatThe Glass Boat is a fairy story.  No, not the way you think I mean.  It’s the story of people who might exist, of events that could happen.  It is, in short, somewhat magical.

An old wharf building is to be pulled down and the site re-developed.  to the man who wants to do this it is only bricks and mortar, bo the woman to whom he entrusts the design work for his new edifice soon finds out otherwise.  It is a magic place, a place that brings her into contact with people who inhabit the same world as herself but not in the same way as she does.  they do it in a way that makes the wharf their world, using only bits and pieces of her world as and when they need them.  Dealing with the so-called real world is a problem for them, in that it intrudes on what they really want to do.

This is a magical book, with a magical story, written in the 1980s.  It entices you in, and you have to decide to continue with the journey or jump off.  Take a leap of faith and stay with the story – hopefully yo will be surprised as I was1

YouTube sensation Eli Lieb's music videos don't lie

Singer tells GSN: ‘I’ve been openly gay my whole career and I don’t think there’s any other way to be’

Eli Lieb, whose cover of Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball went viral last year on YouTube, likes to sing about love.
But the openly gay artist wants his songs to be relateable to both straight and gay audiences.
‘When you listen, it’s equal,’ he tells Gay Star News. ‘When you see my videos, it’s still equal and I try to make that the point – it’s just love as opposed to a gay relationship.’
While the songs can apply to straight or same-sex love, the videos leave no doubt that Lieb is into men.
‘I just write songs, I write pop songs. But when I make a video, you know (I’m gay) because if I’m writing a love song, I need to have another guy in the video – I’m not going to have a girl.’
Lieb, 35, has been performing for years and in 2009 he began recording covers of popular songs and posting them on YouTube.
He was still living in Fairfield, Iowa, and began to attract a following.
Lieb moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 2013 and has since collaborated with such out artists as Adam Lambert, Cheyenne Jackson and Crystal Bowersox.
A year ago, his Wrecking Ball cover put him on the map and it has since had more than 3.5 million views. His single Young Love is not far behind with 2.7 million views and last week he released the video for his latest single Lightning In A Bottle.
He’s happy to be making a name for himself as his authentic self.
‘I’ve been openly gay my whole career,’ he says, ‘and I don’t think there’s any other way to be.’
